Mary Katherine Bier

is a lifelong resident of Pacifica. Mary attended school, worshipped, worked, volunteered, and raised her daughter, Elisa, in our beautiful city by the sea. The youngest of seven, Mary grew up in the Vallemar neighborhood of Pacifica. Her family owned a local business, The Adobe Butcher Shop, where Mary and her siblings worked. Mary is a Terra Nova graduate, and a San Francisco State University alumnus with a Bachelors in Psychology and a minor in Holistic Health. Growing up in Pacifica, working in her family business, and focusing on school shaped Mary’s strong sense of community and tireless work ethic.

Mary felt a huge pull to public service in 2005 after an alcohol related car accident took the lives of her nephew and his girlfriend. As the director of the Pacifica Prevention Partnership, a special project of Jefferson Union High School District, Mary works with students, parents, and local law enforcement to conduct research, share resources, and implement prevention and recovery strategies throughout our community. Through this work, Mary secured nearly 2 million dollars in grant funding to help keep our community healthy and safe. She successfully drafted and passed alcohol policies in Pacifica, Daly City, and San Mateo. Now, as our city begins to introduce recreational marijuana businesses, Mary’s knowledge is a valuable asset that will benefit all Pacificans.

Mary knows intimately the problems facing our community. Like so many of us, Mary faces rising rent and the need for a second job to make ends meet. Mary believes strongly in the importance of community services that help our most vulnerable citizens and the need for responsible development to increase the number of affordable housing units in Pacifica.

Mary is a commissioner of the Pacifica Parks, Beaches and Recreation Commission, and the coordinator of the Pacifica Collaborative. In these positions, Mary creates effective working relationships that connect people and enrich partnerships. There is no corner of our community that Mary is not involved in. Her dedication to public service and deep love of Pacifica are exactly what we need in a City Council member.

This election is about the future of our city. The choices we make now will shape and affect how we live for years to come. With Mary on City Council you can be sure that she will continue to work for a healthy, inclusive, and sustainable future for all of us to enjoy.

Join us and elect Mary Bier for City Council this November!
